What should I expect at my first visit?

During your initial session, your therapist will discuss the reasons for seeking therapy, establish your goals, and suggest a tailored treatment plan. Throughout the process, you may be asked to complete paper-pencil questionnaires to monitor symptoms and track progress, ensuring that therapy is effective. As therapy progresses, you may identify new goals or, together with your therapist, determine that you’re ready to conclude your sessions.

What are the confidentiality rules?

Confidentiality is a crucial aspect of any psychological service. With only a few exceptions, your identity and personal information are legally protected and safeguarded.

Insurance companies may request information about your diagnosis and treatment if a claim is submitted.

However, there are certain situations mandated by law where confidentiality may not be maintained:

  1. If you express a serious intention to harm yourself.
  2. To inform potential victims of violent acts.
  3. To report suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult.
  4. When a court orders the release of your information.
  5. In cases of medical or psychiatric emergencies.

How long does therapy last?

Many patients experience improvement after just a few sessions. However, for optimal success, it is recommended to follow a research-based treatment plan through to completion. We utilize evidence-based treatments tailored to your needs – most of the treatment protocols we follow span at least twelve sessions, although many patients may find relief from symptoms earlier.

Therapy comes to a conclusion when your goals have been achieved and you do not wish to establish new objectives for therapy.
